What To Pack in a Diaper Bag for the Hospital
Now that the big day is just a couple of weeks away you will need to have your hospital bag ready. Packing your hospital bag can trigger panic bells because it will likely remind you of how labor pains are close and make everything so real. However, this should not worry; instead, it should give you happiness that you will soon have a new addition to your home. Check out this article if you’re a new mom you will be pumping regularly, .
When should I start packing my hospital bag?
As a guide, it is recommended that you start packing your hospital bag 32-35 of the pregnancy. The rule of thumb: you should prepare as early as possible- and no time is considered too early for such an activity.
My advice is- the first step in packing hospital bag is by creating a list of what you will need at the hospital. You will need to list of all the items (around 28-weeks) at the start of the third trimester. This will give you enough time to buy, clean and pack all the items you will need.
Hospital bag checklist for mom and baby
Below is my simple guide on the items you will need to pack in your hospital bag. It is just but a guide, and you can adapt it according to your needs.
For Baby
- Nappies
- Cotton wool balls
- Scratch mitts
- Baby towel
- Babygro/sleepsuits
- Cotton hat
- Baby vests
- Blankets
- socks
- Baby powder
- Vaseline
For You
- Maternity pads
- Breast pads (I used these Bamboobies)
- MP3 player
- Books/magazines
- Slippers
- Two-night dress- one to wear while giving birth and the other after
- Plenty of underwear
- Carrier bag for dirty laundry
- Smartphone charger
- Toiletries
It’s advised that all of baby’s laundry be washed using non-bio detergent. No bios contain no enzyme and hence reduced the risk of irritation on baby’s sensitive skin. If you are struggling for space- I would recommend you pack the essentials and let your partner bring more things like infant car seat for traveling home.
